November is a wonderful time for planting and sowing in the garden, enabling you to reap the rewards within the new year.
With the temperatures dropping and the harsher winter weather approaching, it is often mistaken that there isn’t much that can be planted in November, but this is far from the truth. A lively time of year in the horticultural calendar, both our garden care and soft landscaping teams are currently busy planting bare-root hedges to sowing sweet pea seeds. So, come with us as we show you a few seeds and plants that you can establish within your garden this November to ensure that your garden flourishes beautifully in 2025.
Broad beans
Packed with vital vitamins and minerals, broad beans are a wonderful crop to sow and grow in your kitchen garden. Sown into pots or straight into your vegetable beds, broad beans are an easygoing crop with many different varieties benefiting from autumn sowing. ‘Aquadulce’ is a particularly popular cultivar at this time of year which produces incredibly tasty broad beans which can be harvested from the beginning of May.
Garden peas
Nutrient-rich and wonderfully sweet, homegrown garden peas are a delight to grow and harvest within the kitchen garden. At this time of year, our garden care team are sowing a variety of hardy cultivars such as ‘Avola’ and ‘Meteor’.
Sweet peas
Attracting pollinators into the garden and producing beautiful cut blooms, sweet peas are gorgeous flowers that can be sown at this time of year for an early flourish in the new year. Planted now to emerge in early February and March, sweet peas display a glorious burst of colour throughout the garden and adore being planted in areas of full sun.
Bare root hedges and fruit trees
In November bare root hedges and fruit trees are dormant, making this time of year the prime time for planting. Over the next few weeks, our soft landscaping team will be planting a variety of hedges such as Hawthorn, Privet and more.
November is also a fantastic time to establish and settle new fruit trees into your landscape. Apple, pear and plum trees are a few examples that our team love to include within our garden designs.
