Located in a charming Oxfordshire Cotswold village, our skilled landscaping team have recently been working hard to transform an expansive blank canvas garden into a cohesive country landscape design.
Surrounded by rolling green fields and idyllic English countryside, our team have enjoyed every stage and step within this vast and diverse project. With wellness and sustainability at the very heart of this design, our team have used their expert craftsmanship to build an array of outdoor living features to both enhance wellbeing and to create an eco-friendly space that gives back to the local environment.
From a flourishing kitchen garden to a tranquil Japanese zen garden, our team have worked alongside talented garden designer Lucy Conochie to bring her spectacular design to life. A design focusing on sustainable living, mindfulness and wellness, Lucy has carefully crafted this landscape to ensure that all aspects of this expansive space are fulfilled to their maximum potential. A dreamy countryside garden, take a stroll around this landscape as we show you the different areas that our team have been working on to bring this charming landscape design to life.
The main lawn
In the first section of this garden design, our team laid a series of staggered Yorkstone steps (dressed with gravel chippings) that seamlessly lead you out into the garden and guide you to admire and take in the landscape before you. Adjacent to a glorious movement studio, our team laid a collection of striking Schellevis grey slabs to form a versatile paving area, accompanied by a series of steps that gently direct you up towards the main lawn. Adjoining these steps there are a collection of gabions that have been enhanced with planting pockets, prepped and ready for planting.
Situated above the movement studio and sunken into the main lawn our team have also helped to create an idyllic meditation circle. Dressed with species rich wildflower turf, this space will be a delight for the senses, attracting pollinators to explore the garden. The ultimate location to immerse yourself within nature and to take in the breathtaking landscape that surrounds you, these features will provide a serene spot for the owners to both exercise outdoors, practice mindfulness and more.
The barn & kitchen garden
As you move away from this idyllic movement area, the garden weaves around to a beautiful garden barn. At the top of the garden, our team laid a beautiful stepping stone walkway that leads you around the barn and then reaches a series of Yorkstone steps that softly guide you up to the kitchen garden above. Once you reach the top of the steps you are then greeted by a captivating herringbone pathway which was laid by hand and constructed using a collection of timeless reclaimed bricks.
Branching off from the pathway, you are guided into this glorious growing space where our masterly team constructed a family of raised oak beds. To the left hand side of the kitchen garden our team also constructed the foundations of a beautiful greenhouse, using reclaimed Yorkstone to create a solid and durable floor. Installed, planted and maintained by our expert horticulturists, this greenhouse and kitchen garden will soon be burgeoning an abundance of scrumptious and nutrient-rich home grown produce for the owners to enjoy throughout every season.
To mirror the natural surroundings and to match the old farm style of the house, a broad selection of reclaimed and reused materials have been used throughout the project. To put the finishing touches to the kitchen garden area, natural local gravel has been laid around the pathway, sleepers and greenhouse to create a cohesive growing scene.
The medicinal and Japanese garden
Established at the base of the kitchen garden, enter into the medicinal garden. A tranquil space, this area contains a striking reclaimed Yorkstone pathway that drifts you effortlessly throughout the space. Soon to be surrounded with gravel, antique benches and to be enhanced with a flourishing abundance of medicinal plants, these features will frame a heavenly and secluded outdoor space.
Neighbouring this area we hop over stepping stones to find the idyllic Japanese garden. Enclosed with a striking antique Indian gate and framed by a glorious entrance crafted by the stone specialists at TJM Stone Walling, the Japanese garden is a secluded yet statement feature of this spectacular landscape design. With Yorkstone stepping stones guiding you around a central water feature, black basalt gravel has been laid to bring the scene together. For a truly zen and authentic Japanese feel, a series of pots will be placed around the garden and planted with a variety of vibrant acers.
