Wonderful for the environment and adding a striking spot of visual interest throughout your garden, living roofs are beautiful features that can be seamlessly embedded into your garden design.
The roofs of our homes, outdoor buildings and garden structures are often unused spaces, full of potential. When transformed into vibrant sedum green roofs, these spaces are brought to life as a hub for biodiversity and local wildlife. Incredibly valuable features that bring benefits to both your garden and your home, come with us as we explore the beauty of living roofs, showing you how we both install and design these glorious rooftop spaces.
Benefits of living roofs
Living roofs are the on-trend garden feature and we’re not surprised why! Fantastic for diffusing a splash of colour into a previously dull or neglected space, living roofs are also valuable for encouraging biodiversity into your garden and therefore are extremely environmentally friendly features.
Urban areas contain a large amount of buildings and have higher rates of air pollution than rural areas, therefore living roofs are a wonderful way to improve the local environment of your city garden. Easily slotted on top of townhouse roofs, living surfaces are great for enhancing cityscapes with a tapestry of colour, providing the perfect microclimates for insects, birds and other garden wildlife. The plants and substrate contained on a living roof are also able to filter and improve the air quality in local areas.

Sustainable and efficient drainage systems, living roofs are fantastic for reducing surface runoff. Reducing the risk of flooding, the plants contained within these living roofs are excellent at storing water and naturally releasing the water back into the environment.
Living roofs are also extremely energy efficient and are great for improving the thermal performance of your home. Traditional roofs can often lack insulation, therefore allowing heat to escape in winter and trapping warm air in summer. With plants absorbing heat energy during the warmer periods, green roofs reduce your need for air conditioning and are great for trapping in heat during the colder, harsher months.
Ensuring to brighten up any aspect of your garden, living roofs are wonderful for adding a unique and bespoke blanket of visual interest throughout your landscape.
Our latest installation…
We recently installed a striking sedum roof at one of our glorious Oxfordshire townhouses. Adding a vibrant palette to this city garden, this roof contained 8 different varieties of sedum to create a flourishing and vibrant rooftop. Drought tolerant and extremely low maintenance, sedum is a great option for covering an extensive rooftop area due to it’s low growing and resilient nature. Dressing the roof of this glorious garden room, our soft landscaping team loved watching this rooftop come to life with a touch of planting design.
