Duties & Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced gardener to join us in the nurturing and development of our portfolio of beautiful town and country gardens, including estate gardens of particular historic note.

You’ll be helping with soft landscaping and general maintenance of the garden, such as mulching, pruning, leaf clearing and weeding. You’ll support with the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants. You’ll be helping to cut the hedges and mow our fine lawns. You’ll also take ownership of specific gardens ensuring the highest standards are maintained and healthy plants are available for our clients to enjoy.

The successful candidate will mainly work in a team of two, undertaking professional garden care and realising planting schemes alongside the landscaping team. You will have a significant role in implementing design projects and mastering soft landscaping plans, whilst working alongside an award-winning Chelsea designer on a number of projects that have been commissioned.

Essential Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • A recognised horticultural qualification to RHS Level 2 standard or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work both in a team and on your own, when required
  • Confidence to provide appraisals of garden and advice clients
  • Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as a strong knowledge of plants
  • Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
  • Motivation & pride in maintaining a consistently high standard of work
  • Excellent communication skills

Life at The Garden Barn:

The Garden Barn is the hub of The Oxfordshire Gardener. Under the eaves of this gorgeously designed converted barn we gather to exchange news, pore over plans and set the day’s agenda. Set overlooking our own courtyard garden, complete with raised vegetable beds, flower beds and seasonal container displays, the view opens out beyond the garden gates into the rolling meadows and wooded ridges, making it a truly inspirational place to meet in the mornings or work on training days.

The company provides a training budget for each staff member as well as our own in-house training and development plans tailored to each individual’s specific areas of specialism, interest and development goals.

Employees are provided with 22 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 25 after 3 years service) pension, company uniform and PPE, seasonal events and House Tonic: Wellness Programme. We will also invest in your own growth development plan.
