SW8 London Garden

Creating a contemplative and relaxing haven in central London garden for a client whose Oxfordshire garden we looked after was a very tempting brief for Simon.

An urn brought back from Vietnam was pinpointed as the focal point, while arching bracts of Acer palmatum ‘Seiryu’, underplanted with evergreens and perennials give form and texture. Simon created a hot summer palette for the sunny border, which includes heleniums, echinacea and irisis, while the shady area near the house is brightened by bronze metal edging to the cultivated lawn, reflective limestone paving and cedar planters filled with rich, deep-coloured acers, evergreen Skimmia and a bright pink Dodecatheon. A vertical trellis of climbers, provided year-round interest and coverage, screens a bike storage area. Window boxes echo the symmetry of the layout and are planted with favourites including Ajuga, Heuchera and Ilex crenata.

“Simon and his team maintain and look after our garden at our cottage in the Cotswolds and he also implemented a new planting scheme for our garden in London. Both gardens are looking the best they have looked in a very long time. Simon is a pleasure to deal, reliable and totally trustworthy. He is very knowledgeable and creative with his suggestions for soft landscaping. We would highly recommend him.”
